LYRICS

You Gotta See

Think you got life figured out,
But you’re still living at home,
Pillar of community, you sure put on a show.
Got no shortage of friends, but you’re always alone.
There’ll be no-one to listen when you’re crying down the phone,
There’ll be nobody by your side when the time comes,

Cause you gotta see,
(you gotta see)
Your reality,
Between you and me,
(between you and me)
It’s not something to be particularly proud of.
Listen to me!
(listen to me)
We’re not enemies.
You can break free,
(we can break free)
Of the psychological chains that bind us.

Your pours they ooze with power,
But it’s a transient thing,
The true source of which you deny with your ring.
Live for tomorrow but God know what it will bring.
Gambling on a heartbeat is a dangerous thing.
Gambling on a beating heart is so revealing,

Yeah you gotta see,
(you gotta see)
Your negativity.
You gotta agree,
(between you and me)
It’s not the most becoming trait, please
Listen to me!
(listen to me)
We’re not enemies.
You can break free,
(we can break free)
Of the psychological chains that bind us.

Think I’ve got life figured out,
But I’m still living at home,
Pillar of community, I sure put on a show.
Got no shortage of friends, but I’m always alone.
There will be nobody to listen when I’m crying down the phone.

You tell me to be quiet, stop high-horsing around,
As if I’ve got no failings, got no faults of my own.
It’s easier to see farther from higher ground,
I’ve got no business thinking I can throw the first stone.

Yeah we gotta see,
(you gotta see)
Our reality,
Between you and me,
(between you and me)
It’s not something to be particularly proud of.
Listen to me!
(listen to me)
We’re not enemies.
We can break free,
(we can break free)
Of the psychological chains that bind us.

Die-Hard Border

Turn on the channel 4 news every day,
It’s the same old same old refrain from dear Mrs May,
“We’re running out of time, there’s a cliff edge”, she says.
But if there’s a bad deal on the table she’ll be walking away.

There’s talk of disturbance in the distribution chain,
And medical shortages for those in the slow lane,
We’ll be eating canned peaches, beans on toast and span,
Cause all the food lorries will be caught in a traffic jam.

Die-hard border,
Don’t need no New World Order,
Don’t need no clinical disorder,
We all know what lies through that door.

You can keep your die-hard border,
You can keep your New World Order,
You can keep your clinical disorder,
It’s not what they fought and died for.

Got belligerence from Brussels, intransigence from number ten,
Got the DUP over-playing their hand again.
Got sycophantic ministers doing as they’re told,
Cause everybody know there’s no real power they hold.

Got Brexiteers on one side, remainiacs on the other,
Seems there’s no middle ground no more, just shouting through the shutters,
Like sanity has been sacrificed from the equation.
But it’s real people we’re talking about, from every persuasion.

Die-hard border,
Don’t need no New World Order,
Don’t need no clinical disorder,
We all know what lies through that door.

You can keep your die-hard border,
You can keep your New World Order,
You can keep your clinical disorder,
It’s not what they fought and died for.

You think what we’re dealing with is a game of zero-sum,
Where winners take the spoils, send the losers on the run.
But it’s not really like that, we’re related, we’re one,
Cause divide and conquor works with or without a gun.
Divide and conquor works with or without a gun.

Don’t need know die-hard border,
Don’t need no New World Order,
Don’t need no clinical disorder,
We all know what lies through that door.

You can keep your die-hard border,
You can keep your New World Order,
You can keep your clinical disorder,
It’s not what they fought and died for.

Don’t need know die-hard border,
Don’t need no New World Order,
Don’t need no clinical disorder,
We all know what lies through that door.

You can keep your die-hard border,
You can keep your New World Order,
You can keep your clinical disorder,
It’s not what they fought and died for.

In Disguise

Ain’t much of a musician, can only strum a few chords,
Can’t do any cool licks or fly around the fretboard.
And I don’t know what a dimished is, or lydian ad 9,
But I can write a decent meleody, I can write a decent line.

I ain’t much of a crooner, I make crows sound mean,
Will never make it in X-Factor, or as a karaoke king.
And I play a beat up Fender, with no whistles and bells,
But it’s never let me down, it’s always served me well.

And I need a loop pedal to keep me in tune, keep me in time,
And I need a search engine to help find words that rhyme.
And I may need a couple of stiff ones before going on stage,
Am am introverted type, you see, am not Jimmy Page.

But I don’t need a band or backing singers to get air play,
You see I play from the heart, cause I know of no other way.
And I may never play Glastonbury or Wembley stadium,
But that’s OK, am happy gigging down in the gymnasium.

And if I’m on the same treadmill at the age of sixty three,
Still fighting the same commuters, still working in IT,
At least I’ll have tried to follow my desires, my dreams,
Better to die on your feet, than to live on your knees.

What you don’t understand, what you don’t realize,
Our weaknesses are just our strenghts in disguise.
What you never understand, what you never realize,
Our weaknesses are just our strenghts in disguise.

What you don’t understand, what you don’t realize,
Our weaknesses are just our strenghts in disguise.
What you never understand, what you never realize,
Our weaknesses are just …

Kite

You stayed up all night,
So you wouldn’t miss daybreak.
You gave it everything,
I mean everything give or take.
You fought back the tide,
Though it was fight you knew you’d lose.
Those castles of sand your bare hands built,
Were never meant for me and you.

Cause you were only ever passing through,
So why would you put up a fight?
You may have been afraid of the dark,
But you were never afraid of the light.

I see you flying,
Flying the kite you thought would never fly.
I see you chasing,
Chasing your star you thought would leave the sky.
I see you staring at the world outside,
The world you thought would never pass you by.
I see the love in your beautiful eyes
I thought was just for you and I.

And you tried to prize
Open my air-tight heart.
You know you succeeded where others failed,
By blowing it apart.
And you know you thread,
Barefoot on the shores of my heart,
But your footsteps, they showed the way,
The way out if the dark.

Casue you were only ever passing through,
So why would you put up a fight?
You may have been afraid of the dark,
But you were never afraid of the light.

I see you flying,
Flying the kite you thought would never fly.
I see you chasing,
Chasing your star you thought would leave the sky.
I see you staring at the world outside,
The world you thought would never pass you by.
I see the love in your beautiful eyes
I thought was just for you and I.

They say I must move on,
And yeah, I guess that’s true.
But everywhere I look, just reminds me of you.
They say life goes on, and I guess in some ways it’s true,
But how can anything be the same,
Be the same without you, without you, without you?

I see you flying, flying your kite,
The kite you thought would never fly.
I see you chasing, chasing your star
You thought would never leave the sky.
I see you staring at the world outside,
You thought would never pass you by.
I see the love in your beautiful eyes
I thought was just for you and I.
A love you know will never die.

Riddle

It seeks no recognition,
It seeks no praise.
It works behind the scenes,
It works behind the stage.
It resides in every atom,
In every beat of the heart.
It guides the present and the future,
It guides each turning on our path.

It shines from a baby’s eyes,
From each ray of the sun.
It always there to soothe our aches and pains
When the day is done.
It suffers our conceits,
Our tragedies and affairs.
Still it offers solace and succour
In our moment of despair.

Necessity may be invention’s mother
But who gave birth to this?
The answer lies, where all answers do
Inside our heart, inside our bliss.

It’s always knows what’s best for us,
Even if we disagree.
Still it never forces it’s will,
Never issues a decree.
Its severity is mistaken
For cruelty at times,
But its used to being misunderstood,
You see, sometimes history rhymes.

It powers every electron
Orbiting its nucleic core.
It propels each celestial orb
Spinning for evermore.
It resides in every atom,
In every beat of the heart.
It guides the present and the future,
It guides each turning on the path.

Necessity may be invention’s mother
But who gave birth to this?
The answer lies where all answers do
Inside your heart, inside your kiss.

Necessity may be invention’s mother
But who gave birth to this?
The answer lies where all answers do
Inside your heart, inside your kiss.

Inside your kiss.
Inside your kiss.
Inside your kiss.
The answer lies, inside your kiss.
Inside your kiss.
Inside your kiss.
The answer lies.
The answer lies.

Necessity may be invention’s mother
But who gave birth to this?
The answer lies where all answers do
Inside your heart, inside your kiss.

Soldier Boy

Take this damaged heart, take its hollowed out core,
It’s edges may be rusty, but its still endures.
Take this frayed love, it’s tattered and strained.
It’s seen better days, but in love, better days remain.

The brighter your light shines, the darker my shadow grows.
The weaker my resolve, the deeper your love goes.

Don’t lose hope in this weary soul, he’s lost his long before,
Don’t turn away from this lost cause, it’s a cause worth fighting for.
Don’t lose faith in this faithless one, so blind he will not see.
Don’t give up on this soldier boy, this boy’s given up on me.

Take this outstretched hand, the one which writes this song,
It’s caloused and worn, but it’s faithful labour carries on.
Take this path I’m travelling, let’s walk it in all weather,
Though on it many perils lie, we’ll navigate them together.

The brighter your light shines, the darker my shadow grows,
The weaker my resolve, the stronger your love grows.

This boy, this boy’s given up on me.
This boy, this boy’s given up on me.

Three

Three windmills on the cliff top,
Blades spinning over the sound.
Wind is what they dream of,
But wind can also bring them down.

Three horses on the mountain,
Hooves breaking through the ice.
Freedom is what they yearned for,
But freedom comes at a price.

Oooh …

Three soldiers in the trenches,
Awaiting the bugalers call.
Survival is what they fight for,
But sometimes its better to take the fall.

Three pilgrims on their journey,
Travelling to the holy land.
Salvation is what they long for,
But it’s as elusive as a righteous man.

Oooh …

Three times we betray before the rooster crows,
Three times we are tempted by the devil’s gold.
Three times we knell in our Getsemene,
Three times we beseech to be close to thee.

Three times we betray before the rooster crows,
Three times we are tempted by the devil’s gold.
Three times we knell in our Getsemene,
Crying out to the one, to be close to thee.

Three figures on the hillside,
Casting long shadows at the end of day.
Paradise is what they wait for,
But not everybody makes the grade.
